The supply of Mint State coins was augmented by releases of 1887-O Morgan dollars from government vaults in 1938, and through the 1950s. Many 1887-Os were among the millions of New Orleans Morgan dollars disbursed from Treasury vaults from 1962 to 1964.

The 1887-O Morgan dollar suffers from the same poor, flat strike and uninspiring luster as many other coins from the New Orleans Mint.
